After Bud got out of the Navy he went on to become a three sport athlete for the University of Minnesota. He played football, basketball and baseball. He earned 9 letters as well as Big Ten honors in football two times!
Out of college he was drafted by the NBA and the NFL! He chose to play for the Minneapolis Lakers. He payed 2 seasons with them in the NBA. He then decided to play in the NFL playing defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles. After being on the defense he decided to switch to the offense and played wide receiver. Bud had 997 yards on 56 catches with 7 touchdowns as a receiver. In 1953 he chose to leave the Eagles to play for the CFL (Canadian Football League) and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, because he felt that the NFL and the Eagles weren't willing to pay him what he was worth. In 1957 he ended his career as a player and became the head coach for the Blue Bombers at 29 years old.
